This expedition combines scenic overland travel and river navigation, taking you through cloud forest and lowland rainforest with outstanding opportunities to observe wildlife in pristine natural habitats.

Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge
Early departure from Cusco, crossing the Andes via Chawaytiri Pass (4,200 m) and descending through the cultural town of Paucartambo.
Enter Manu National Park through Acjanaco Pass (3,560 m), where the Andes meet the Amazon Basin. Continue into the cloud forest, home to orchids, bromeliads, hummingbirds, and mixed flocks.
Arrival at your lodge (1,450 m), with possible sightings of Spectacled Bear, parrots, and diverse birdlife.
Day 2: Cloud Forest – Kosñipata Valley – Amazon Lowlands
Travel through the lush Kosñipata Valley, one of Peru’s richest ecosystems.
Continue by private vehicle and then by boat along the Madre de Dios River, entering the Amazon lowlands. Wildlife observation along riverbanks. Overnight near Boca Manu.

Day 3: Manu River – Casa Matsiguenka – Oxbow Lake
Navigate upstream along the Manu River into the core of Manu National Park.
One of the most rewarding wildlife days of the expedition, with chances to observe monkeys, capybaras, caimans, and abundant birdlife.
Arrival at Casa Matsiguenka, a remote community-managed eco-lodge. Afternoon exploration of an oxbow lake, habitat of Giant River Otters and Hoatzins.
Day 4: Manu National Park – Tambo Blanquillo Lodge
Explore additional wetlands and forest habitats, increasing your chances of spotting Giant River Otters, turtles, and monkeys.
Travel downstream along the Manu and Madre de Dios rivers to Tambo Blanquillo Lodge. Afternoon visit to a tapir clay lick.
Day 5: Macaw Clay Lick – Rainforest Exploration
Early morning visit to one of the region’s most active macaw clay licks.
Observe parrots, parakeets, and macaws gathering in large numbers from a comfortable viewing blind. After lunch, explore rainforest trails and nearby wetlands for further wildlife encounters.
Day 6: Amazon Lowlands – Puerto Maldonado – Flight to Cusco
Early departure by motorized canoe, followed by a land transfer to Puerto Maldonado.
Along the way, continue observing wildlife along riverbanks and forest edges. Arrival at the airport, where you will board your return flight to Cusco.
